This marks the beginning of the 3rd installment of the critically acclaimed "52 Beat Pickup" from hip-hop producer and jack of all trades, Spread.
It has been over 8 years since the last installment, and as you can guess, Spread has gone through a number of changes in sound over that time, including a few new weapons of choice. In addition to the grimy calling card of the SP1200, Spread has also been incorporating software such as Ableton, Garage Band, making beats in Pro Tools, and working completely in standalone mode on the MPC-X.
Since all 52 beats would be over 100 minutes in total, Spread has split the project up into 3 parts: "What's the Deal?," "The Flop," and "The River." Each 33 minute and 33 second album reflects the variety of styles and influences that have led us to this point in history.
There are some old soundbites from old friends sprinkled throughout to keep the rap rats honest and to add atmosphere to this instrumental project.
Some beats in this compilation are already songs, some have been sold to some really dope MCs and some are still looking for a home. Serious inquiries only please.
