This track is a flip of one of my favorite Sly tunes of all time. The weird PCP'd out stuff he does with his voice on this tune have always whispered in my ear "sample me." This song was intended to go on my Curious Peacock Casino project, which will happen in my lifetime, just not sure when. I've been working on it 25 years or so lol...The idea of the song is that a group of unlikely people on a cruise ship meet up and hang out because they all smoke weed, and besides music, it is the ultimate equalizer. The song was about the idea that this magical herb brings people together. Anyway, still might use it, but I've been slowly getting rid of a lot of the sample-based material for that project because it will be an expensive production when its finished and the less samples to clear, the better.
Anyway, I made this beat on the SP and wasn't happy with the way the drums felt so I had Devon work his magic and play over it. In fact, I use the raw drums from this track in a lot of my live beat sets, if I'm using turntables and MPC. He really just gave it so much feel that I ended up running the SP part of the beat through the moogerfooger to kinda glue them together. Its a strange track, but smoke some weed, you'll get it!
