about

This was a MJ sample I flipped when I had Ableton. I had just gotten a controller after (for too long) using my laptop keyboard to type in the notes so I kinda flexed out on the chops and stuff. Ableton is cool because there are really limitless possibilities at your fingertips...especially with a controller or the push or that new Akai monstrosity. Perhaps though, it holds too many possibilities for my mind to focus because everything I make on it is pretty epic.
I messed with pitching the samples up and down and everywhere to get the tempo to be a more "hip hop" speed, but the sample almost demanded something fast, being originally a dance track. Challenge accepted. This one starts fast, but being that I'm from Nap and Mike is from GI, I decided to do some half-time/double-time action with the beat and the chops. We used to call this trunk music for obvious reasons, but now they've taken this style and drum patterns and softened up the drums and got lazy with the repeat button and call it trap, but to each their own. We know where they got it from, but we're still craftsmen with our drums.
