I made this on the MPC-X late one night. I try to make at least one beat or at least a sketch of a song or beat per day and I was about to go to bed and hadn't made one yet, so I decided to start with a bassline. Which is very rarely how I make beats anymore, but it used to be a staple of how I used to write songs and make beats. I came up with this crazy Stevie meets Marvin meets Dilla meets Squarepusher type bassline on the MPC and got the drums going. Since the bass was so busy, the other melodic and rhythmic components I added were extremely simple, which 9/10 times is better. So one of the simpler accompaniment parts became the main melody and I don't bring the busy bassline in until the 2nd verse. Ii also made a simple bassline for the rest of the song because people are gonna be actually rapping over this so...
